Apart from a security alert issued to all airports across the country ahead of the Independence Day, security agencies have also kept 12 major airports on high alert owing to terror threats.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) that is responsible for security at the airports is taking all possible measures to avert any terror attack.

“We got inputs from the intelligence bureau (IB) about impending terror attacks at airports across the country, which includes the metro airports,” the spokesperson for CISF, Delhi, said.

“Hence, we have asked all security agencies at these airports to be on high alert,” he said. These airports include Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, amongst others.”

Thus, the CISF has increased city-side deployment with their men in plain clothes to be present both in and outside airport terminal buildings. “We have sensitized our people to be more vigilant for suspicious bags, cars, vehicles in and around the airport,” he said.

CISF men will also be doing passenger profiling to identify potential threats and will also conduct thorough check of hand/cabin luggage.

Similarly, all vehicles entering the airport will be randomly checked by CISF men present at various entry points to the airport.

“We have also increased armed patrolling in operational and city side area. We are prepared to meet all kinds of terror possibilities,” a senior CISF official from Mumbai said.

Owing to the security alert, entry of visitors to international terminals has been banned. No passes will be issued to passengers’ relatives or any other visitors.

“We appeal to the public to inform us in case they identify suspicious baggage in and around the airport,” CISF spokesperson said on Monday.
