Eleven school students from Ahmedabad will get a chance to rub shoulders with students of United States of America's Duke University (DU).

They have been selected for a 21-day residential workshop to be held at Symbiosis, Mysore under the Talent Identification Programme (TIP) of Duke University. This year, DU has partnered Educational Initiatives (EI), a brainchild of IIMA alumni members.

Although Duke has been carrying out TIP in USA for the past 30 years, it was introduced in India only two years ago.

For Anshuman Acharya, one of the students at the three-week workshop, getting an aid of over 90% for fees was a big boost for his future ambitions.

"I don't remember the exact fee of my workshop. But I knew it was to be paid in dollars, and this itself made me guilty as I knew the amount to be paid by my parents was huge. But, after scoring over 95% in EI's asset test and then achieving 90 percentile again in the workshop exam, I relieved the burden of my parents."

Acharya, who appeared for the exam in Grade-7 at Anand Niketan School, Ahmedabad, has chosen environmental engineering as his subject for the workshop. Dreaming of becoming a scientist and winning a Nobel Prize is Trishla Punjabi of Zydus School of Excellence.

Explaining her choice of subject as entrepreneurial leadership for TIP, Punjabi says, "My aim is to establish and manage a business of my own. Since both my parents are doctors, I intend to take this forward by having a chain of hospitals across India. While my father is a gynaecologist, my mother is a test-tube baby specialist."
