10-year old girl sets herself ablaze in West Bengal

With her father yet to buy her the school uniform, a class IV girl today set herself ablaze at Krishnaganj in Nadia district today. The girl Sathi Das, 10, referred to RG Kar Hospital with over 70 per cent burns, reportedly set herself on fire after sprinkling kerosene at her home, official sources said.

Sathi was a student of Shibnibash GS Primary School under Krishnaganj police station area in the district.

District Magistrate Abhinaba Chanda said as per the literacy mission, distribution of money against uniform has been going on and guardians were asked to show their receipt to collect money.

"An inquiry has been ordered to know what really happened in this case," the DM said referring to today's incident.

The girl's day labourer father Mrittunjay Das claimed he was ready to buy the uniform for his daughter.

One of her relatives alleged she was rebuked in school for not donning the uniform but Head Master Sambhunath Adhikari denied the charges. 10-year old girl sets herself aflame in West Bengal
