New Delhi: NEW DELHI: Towns and cities around India are regularly hit by blasts, blamed by authorities on groups ranging from Islamic insurgents in Kashmir to separatist groups in the troubled northeast.

The following are among the 10 most recent fatal bomb blasts to hit the country.

October 29
A series of powerful explosions ripped through crowded market areas in New Delhi, killing at least 50 people as shoppers in the Indian capital were gearing up for a major Hindu holiday.

October 8
An explosion believed to have been set by Maoist rebels killed 12 policemen in Jharkand, a police officer said. Authorities said they suspected Maoist rebels.

September 29
Seven people died and 20 were injured when a grenade exploded outside a shopping mall in Kashmir, the army said.

September 4
At least 24 paramilitary soldiers were killed in a powerful landmine blast triggered by suspected Maoist rebels in eastern India. The three-decade-old conflict has claimed thousands of lives.

August 12
One person died and six others were badly hurt in a grenade attack by rebels in insurgency-racked northeast, the latest in a wave of attacks ahead of August 15, Independence Day.

August 7
Rebels in India's northeastern state of Assam blasted an oil pipeline killing four people, police said.

July 28
An explosion ripped through a long distance passenger train in northern India killing 12 people. The type of explosive used in the blast had been used by Islamic militants and by separatist rebels.

July 20
A car bomb claimed by Islamic rebels exploded in the heart of Srinagar, killing four soldiers and a civilian and injuring 21 people, police and medical sources said.

June 24
Nine soldiers were killed and 17 wounded when a powerful car bomb exploded as a bus carrying troops drove past a popular tourist attraction in Kashmir, officials said.

May 22
One person was killed and 49 were wounded when blasts rocked two cinemas in New Delhi that were screening a controversial film condemned by Sikhs, police said.
