10 cops injured in police-women clash at Ganganpur

Over ten policemen were among those injured in a clash that broke out this afternoon when a women congregation heading towards the SDO's office in Gangapur hurled stones at them, prompting police to baton-charge.

Hundreds of women were on their way to submit a representation to sub-divisional officer against four policemen who they alleged had misbehaved with some women during the clash on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, March 30, between two communities at Gangapur near here.

After an argument with police, some women allegedly resorted to stone pelting that left a dozen of personnel injured, police said.

Police baton-charged the crowd to control the situation in which a few locals received mild injuries, they said.
    
Meanwhile, the bandh continued in the town for the second day today in view of the Tuesday's clash. The bandh was observed in the town at a call by the majority community.

Six persons, including two policemen, were injured and as many shops torched during the clash that broke out over a religious procession on Tuesday.

Extra police force has been deployed in the town after tension mounted. 37 people of both the communities have been taken into custody till last night, they said.
