1 more tests positive to swine flu in Ahmedabad

Rajasthan man admitted to hospital in city; total swine flu cases in state touches 11.

One more patient in Sterling Hospital has tested positive for swine flu. The 55-year-old man, identified as Sureshchandra Jain, was brought from Rajasthan for treatment in the hospital. It was after he was brought here that it was confirmed that he was suffering from swine flu. Sources said he was admitted on Monday morning and his condition is reported to be stable.

Since the outbreak of the disease this year, Gujarat has recorded in all 11 cases. Of this, 6 were from the state and 5 from other states.

“In all, 5 patients who came to Gujarat from elsewhere later tested positive for swine flue,” said a health department official. It should be noted that of the 5 patients from outside, 4 are from Rajasthan while one was from Maharashtra.

Of the 6 cases reported from the state, 2 had succumbed to the disease, one in Ahmedabad and the other in Rajkot. Of the patients from outside, one had died.

The first case of swine flue in Gujarat this year was recorded on March 26, 2012 after a plumber tested positive for the disease. Gujarat recorded its first swine flu death of the year on Saturday when a Rajkot man succumbed to the infection.

Mansukh Dhodiya, 52, died of swine flu on April 7, four days after he was admitted to Rajkot civil hospital on April 3. The first swine flu death to be recorded in Ahmedabad was that of Yasmi Bano Iqbal Hussain Sheikh, a resident of Juhapura, who died of the disease at her home. She had got herself discharged from VS Hospital against medical advice.
