Zohra Sehgal's death leaves void in the world of art which will be difficult to fill: Pranab Mukherjee

President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of veteran actress Zohra Sehgal, saying that her death leaves a void in the world of art and creativity which will be difficult to fill.

In his condolence message to her daughter, Kiran Sehgal, the President has said, ". Zohra Sehgal was a veteran actress, theatre artist and TV personality. She delighted countless Bollywood and Hollywood film watchers by her memorable acting and unabated energy. She will always be remembered for her films like 'Bhaji on the Beach', 'Cheeni Kum', 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Saawariya' etc."

"Her singular contribution to Indian theatre and cinema was recognized through a number of awards including Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Her death leaves a void in the world of art and creativity which will be difficult to fill," he added.

He further said: "I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and her countless fans and friends. I pray to the Almighty to give you and your family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss".

Sehgal died at a hospital in New Delhi on Thursday. She was 102.
