New Delhi: Zee News Ltd has appealed to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Meira Kumar, to remove Congress MP from Haryana Naveen Jindal from the parliamentary standing committee on home affairs on the grounds that it is a major conflict of interest.

Pointing to the ongoing court case between Jindal, his company JSPL and Zee News Ltd, the letter from Zee News Ltd has alleged that the MP has been misusing his position as a member of the standing committee on home affairs to put pressure on the Delhi Police which is investigating the case. Since the Delhi Police reports to the Union ministry of home affairs, the probe cannot be termed balanced and unbiased.

Earlier, Zee News had also filed a writ petition (criminal) in the Supreme Court bringing to light the illegality of the three FIRs filed against it and pleading the court to quash them. Taking cognisance of the matter, the Supreme Court had issued notices to the Central government, the Delhi Police and JSPL.

The letter also points out that Jindal’s position as a member of the standing committee is a clear violation of the provisions of the Constitution and practices followed by Parliament. It adds that Jindal’s influence indicates a conflict of interest because of which the Delhi Police investigation is one-sided and is ensuring that it ignores the various statements and representations made by Zee News Ltd in the matter.
