Zarrar Shah finds mention in the Supreme Court verdict in the 26/11 case as 'wanted accused number 7', where his role as the computer expert is discussed in detail. Ajmal Kasab, in his confessional statement before the magistrate, said it was Ustad Abu Kafa, one of the trainers at the camp where Kasab and other members of the assault team were trained, who introduced Kasab to Zarrar Shah.

“Zarrar Shah and Ibrahim were said to be the Ameer of the media wing of the organisation (Lashkar e Taiba). Zarrar Shah was a computer expert. He could use computer technology to make a call, deceptively, from Pakistan to appear as if it was being made from some other country. Zarrar Shah and Ibrahim had set up a high technology media room. In this room, they had collected maps, CDs, and other information concerning the major cities of every country in the world on the basis of which they selected the targets and advised Zaki-Ur Rehman Lakhvi,” Kasab said in his statement.

After Kasab and others were briefed on their mission, they were taken into a big hall, where there were big TV screens. “Zarrar Shah told them this was the control room of the media wing. Zarrar Shah told them the different roads in Mumbai and the different targets on a big TV screen. He showed VT station and  Malabar Hill to Kasab and Ismail Khan on a CD. He also gave them detailed information about roads leading to VT station and Malabar Hill,” the statement further reads.

After this, the assault team was given weapons, ammunition and Indian currency that was to be used by them during their attack. Zarrar Shah then gave each of them a mobile phone. When Ismail asked which place the number belonged to, Zarrar Shah replied that those numbers were of Hindustan. He added that they had obtained the SIM cards from Hindustan by tricking some people there and that the SIM cards would get activated on reaching Bombay. He asked them to use the phones on reaching Bombay,” the statement further read.
Kasab then asked which numbers they should call on and Lakhvi told them Zarrar had already filled in the numbers. They were to just press the green button twice on their phones and the phone would be connected.

Zarrar Shah was arrested in Pakistan in December 2008 but he was never handed over to India for his role in the 26/11 attack.
