Security forces dealt a major blow to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) on Saturday, killing six top Pakistani commanders, including Obaid, the nephew of Mumbai attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and the son of Jamat-ud-Dawa second-in-command Abdul Rehman Makki. The fierce encounter took place at Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
An elite Garud commando of the Indian Air Force laid down his life in the line of duty, while another soldier was injured in the encounter.
The slain terrorists included Zargam and Mehmood, the most wanted militant commanders in north Kashmir. Mehmood was the main accused in the killing of BSF constable Mohommad Ramzan Parrey alias Rameez on September 27 and killing of two Garud Commandos on October 11.
“The encounter has ended and it was a success. A total of six LeT terrorists have been eliminated, and weapons and ammunition have been recovered. One of the terrorists, Owaid, is son of Rehman Maki and nephew of Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi,” tweeted Dr SP Vaid, DGP, J&K.
