Aaditya Thackeray, the grandson of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, is likely to assume a bigger responsibility in the party organisation soon as the party is planning to promote the Yuva Sena chief at its state executive meeting on Tuesday. With his promotion, the Shiv Sena will enter the third generation leadership era.

Shiv Sena is holding its executive meeting at Sardar Patel stadium in Worli from Tuesday. Party insiders have said that the time has come for Aaditya Thackeray to play a bigger role in the organisation.

Aaditya, the son of Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray, is heading Yuva Sena at present and is being looked upon as the political heir of his father. Shiv Sena has 8 secretaries and it is likely that Aaditya would be given more responsibility as a secretary in addition to being Yuva Sena President.

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, when contacted, maintained that Aaditya Thackeray is already a leader of the Shiv Sena.

"Aaditya is galvanising youngsters and this is what Shiv Sena would benefit from. There is no question of launching him since he is already a Sena leader," Raut said.

As Yuva Sena chief, the young Thackeray has often taken the cause of youngsters in Mumbai. He had advocated the idea of opening of hotels and restaurants for 24 hours. The state government in its recent winter session passed a bill to this effect, giving a boost to Mumbai nightlife.

He has also led various student agitations at Mumbai University.
