The main opposition, YSR Congress, in Andhra Pradesh today alleged that the ruling TDP is indulging in "political murders" of its cadres and sought a CBI probe into such killings.

YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy met Governor ESL Narasimhan and submitted a memorandum urging him to direct the state government to order a CBI inquiry into the alleged "political murders".

"...unless these state-sponsored murders are checked and action is taken against those responsible, the government and TDP cadre are going to get even bolder. We request you kindly to direct the state government to order CBI probe into the aforesaid murders to bring the culprits to book," the memorandum said.

The ruling TDP is working on a plan of "physically eliminating the opposition" in the state, it alleged.

"The behaviour of TDP and its leaders is utter disrespect for democratic norms and they are working with a clear design to physically eliminate the opposition in the state in the fond hope of perpetuating their power in the state," the memorandum charged.

The recent killing of a YSR Congress functionary in Anantapur district is the latest incident of a political murder, the party claimed.

"The latest incident in Anantapur district, where a senior YSRCP functionary, Rapthadu Mandal convenor Bhumireddy Prasada Reddy, was murdered on April 29 brings to the fore the impunity with which the TDP government has been letting loose terror in the state," the memorandum alleged.

The YSR Congress has raised the issue in Legislative Assembly but it fell on deaf ears, it said.
