A third-year economics student went live on Facebook and uploaded a chilling 1.43-minute video giving a "tutorial on how to commit suicide" before he ended his life by jumping from a 19th floor room of Taj Lands End hotel in Bandra West on Monday evening.

According to the police, the deceased, Arjun Bharadwaj, 23, took his own life around 6.20pm when he broke the glass window of his room and leaped to his death. The Bandra police later found a suicide note, in which Bharadwaj claimed he was ending his life due to depression. In the note, Bharadwaj said no one else was to be held responsible for his death, the police said.

Bharadwaj was from Bengaluru and was doing graduation in Economics from a reputed college in Vile Parle. According to the police, the youth had checked into the hotel at 3am on Monday. After recording the video, he broke the window in his room and jumped to his death.

In the video, Bhardwaj talks nonchalantly about recording a suicide video, leaving behind a suicide note, getting drunk, 'eating bacon pasta' and enjoying the view from the window. He is seen smoking and taking swigs from a bottle of liquor, even as he says "This is probably the stupidest live video you have seen on Facebook." He signs off bidding farewell with the ominous words, "See you on the other side."

"We rushed him to the Lilavati Hospital where he was declared dead on admission. A guard in the hotel premises alerted the hotel management, and they found Bharadwaj lying in the premises in a pool of blood," an officer from the Bandra police station said.

The Mumbai police later removed the video from Facebook, and an accidental death report was registered at Bandra police station.

Pandit Thackeray, Senior Inspector, Bandra police station, said: "We have informed the family about the incident and they have come to the city from Bengaluru to collect the body."

"Prima facie, it seems that the youth was depressed and we are probing if he was addicted to drugs. We are investigating the case," said Thackeray.

"Bharadwaj was staying in the hotel and had jumped off from his room in the afternoon. We alerted the police as soon as we learnt about the incident," said a spokesperson from Taj Lands End.
