As anger against the ruling BJP over Kathua and Unnao rape cases turned into outrage, people in several cities have reportedly launched a campaign to boycott the party.

In Jammu and Kashmir, two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers have resigned after it was reported that they attended a rally in support of accused in Kathua rape and murder case. In Uttar Pradesh's Unnao, a BJP MLA has been arrested on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl.

In what can be seen as fallout of the above-mentioned cases, in Kerala, hand-written and printed notes were posted on gates of several houses, asking BJP leaders to stay away. Text on those posters varies but the message is clear that people are angry with the BJP after Unnao and Kathua rape cases.

These posters have now gone viral on social media with some of the posts being shared by hundreds of users.

One such poster was shared by Congress' Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor.

"Posters going up outside Kerala homes saying there are girls below 10 years of age living there, so BJP canvassers should stay outside," the former minister tweeted along with a picture of the poster written in Malayali.

"Leave your leaflets outside the gate. Vote-seeking BJP members please do not enter the house, we have under-10 girls,” a poster shared by a Twitter user read.

Another note posted on a gate said: "There are girl children in this house. BJP members who come seeking votes, please stand outside the gate."

In UP, residents of Shivkuti Colony in Allahabad put similar posters asking BJP leaders to stay out.

"Entry of politicians and members of BJP is prohibited," a poster in Hindi said.

Residents said this was done due to the alleged role of BJP workers in a number of rapes and crime against women.

In Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district, a BJP MLA and his brother have been accused of raping a minor and beating up her father who later died of injuries while in custody.

Amid heightened public anger, the CBI on Friday arrested MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar on the directions of the Allahabad High Court.

The Kathua case relates to an eight-year-old girl from the nomadic Bakerwal Muslim community who had disappeared from near her home in a village near Kathua in the Jammu region on January 10. Her body was found in the same area a week later.

A Special Investigation Team formed to probe the incident has arrested eight people, including two Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a head constable, who was charged with destroying evidence.

The BJP had faced flak after its leaders in the Jammu region, including two ministers -- Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga -- in the Mehbooba Mufti government, joined the public protests against the police probe into the rape and murder case, which led to the arrest of eight persons. The ministers subsequently resigned.
