A day after Haryana government took over Gurugram's Ryan International, the CBSE on Saturday served a show cause notice to the embattled school in connection with the murder of a 7-year-old student on its premises.

The notice asked Ryan why its affiliation to the educational board “may not be withdrawn”.

The CBSE's damning report found Ryan guilty of “gross negligence”.

It clearly said that Ryan failed to save Pradhuman Thakur, the class II student, who was found murdered in the school toilet.

“The toilet windows had no grills,” the CBSE noted.

Other safety violation include no separate toilet for bus staff and student; no attendant/aaya was present outside the toilet of the small children; unlocked, idle two floors of the school; low-height boundary wall; no fire safety certificates; CCTV cameras not functional among others.

Apart from this, there were administrative lapses on part of Ryan. There was no full-time principal in the school.

The Ryan failed to inform the police about the incident, the CBSE said.

“From the entire sequence of events, it appears that the school is guilty of gross negligence and failed to ensure safety and security of the students in the school, ” the CBSE said. The report also said that had the school followed the guidelines, the unfortunate death of class II student could have been avoided.

Now, Ryan has 15 days to reply to CBSE's show cause notice. Failing to which, the CBSE may cancel its affiliation. In case Ryan loses CBSE affiliation, other students will be transferred to other branches to avoid any loss to their academic year.
