Today is Yogini Ekadashi, one of the most important Ekadashi ‘tithis’ this year. According to the Hindu calendar, there are 24 Ekadashis in a year. Yogini Ekadashi falls in the ‘Ashadha’ month during the ‘Krishna Paksha’.

Importance: The Yogini Ekadashi vrat is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology, on this day, Lord Vishnu goes to sleep or ‘shayan’. On this day, devotees must chant ‘Vishnu Sahatranaam’. For those who can’t do the path of ‘Vishnu Sahatranaam’, they can chant the relatively easier maha mantra of ‘Om Namoh Bhagwate Vasudevaya.’

Significance: Priests believe that if you want to fulfill your wishes, one should make donation of grain and water i.e. ‘anna daan’ and ‘jal daan’.

Shubha Muhurat: On 10th, Parana Time = 05:34 to 08:19
On Parana Day Dwadashi End Moment = 18:45
Ekadashi Tithi Begins = 23:30 on 8/Jul/2018
Ekadashi Tithi Ends = 21:27 on 9/Jul/2018

Puja: There are times when the fasting for Ekadashi is suggested on two consecutive days. However, devotees with family should observe the Ekadashi fasting on first day only. The alternate Ekadashi fasting, which is the second one, is suggested for Sanyasis, widows and for those who want Moksha.

Legend has it that those observing the Ekadashi vrat get punya that is equivalent to serving and feeding around 80,000 Brahmins.
