In a huge blow to Baba Ramdev, the Uttar Pradesh government cancelled the land allotted for Patanjali’s Rs 20 billion food park project in Greater Noida on Tuesday.

According to latest media reports, the Yogi Adityanath government has reportedly said that it would sort out the issue at the earliest.

The news came into public domain after Acharya Balkrishna Managing Director of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd and co-founder of Patanjali Yogpeeth took to Twitter and expressed his displeasure over the move.

‘Patanjali to shift its planned food park from Uttar Pradesh due to state government’s disappointing attitude, lives of farmers could not be improved,’ Balkrishna said in a tweet.

There are unconfirmed reports that CM Yogi has spoken to Baba Ramdev on the issue.

Last year in August, the Allahabad High Court had stayed land use change and work done at 4,500 acres of land allotted to Patanjali in Noida (Gautam Budh Nagar) by the erstwhile Akhilesh Yadav government.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Tarun Agarwal and Justice Ashok Kumar, had also issued notices to the Industrial Development Commissioner to file his reply under which law the land was allotted to Patanjai Ayurveda Sthal.

The HC had also directed the District Magistrate Gautam Budh Nagar to inspect the construction site and file a report in the court on whose order green trees were allowed to be uprooted by JCBs. The court had directed the DM to furnish details of officers and policemen present at the time of felling green trees.

The HC had also asked the commissioner Meerut how the land in Jewar tehsil was acquired from old laws. The Court passed the stay order disallowing any work at the land allotted to Baba Ramdev's company on a PIL filed by one Ausaaf and 13 others on the shady land deal.

Significantly, the Tehsildar Jewar (Gautam Budh Nagar) Abhay Kumar told the bench that neither the land allotted to Baba Ramdev's Company was ever acquired nor any compensation was paid to farmers.

Petitioner had told the court that he was allotted 200 bighas of land for developing land on lease by the previous government but later on the same land was included into 4,500 acres of land allotted to Baba Ramdev's company.

Baba Ramdev's company was allotted 4,500 acres of land for developing Patanjali Ayurveda Park in Jewar tehsil by former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The former Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal had played a crucial role into the deal. Sources claimed that Singhal had allegedly secured sales and marketing rights of Patanjali's products in lieu of favour showered on Baba Ramdev.
