After taking control of the bureaucracy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now trained his guns on his political adversaries. Not only has Adityanath reviewed projects of the previous regime, he has also ordered an inquiry into four dream projects of the Akhilesh Yadav regime.

The four projects are the Rs 864.99 crore Jai Prakash Narayan International Centre, Rs 872.58 crore CG City, Rs 355 crore Jansewhar Mishra Park and Rs 153.05 crore beautification project in and around the Human Maze and Imambara in Lucknow.

According to a missive from the Special Secretary Urban Planning and Housing Department RJ Chowdhary, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) Vice-Chairman Satyendra Singh has been directed to inquire into financial and other irregularities carried out in these four projects.

The inquiry ordered by Yogi has come as a special blow to the previous regime, as two of these projects were being executed by M/S Shalimar whose owners are considered to be extremely close to the Yadav clan, particularly Mulayam Singh Yadav’s second son Prateek Yadav.

Indeed, one of the owners, Sanjay Seth, was sent to the Rajya Sabha on a Samajwadi Party ticket last year after UP Governor Ram Anik rejected his nomination for the UP Council.

The inquiry has put the spotlight on Prateek Yadav. Sources claim that he has invested heavily in this firm which bagged many big projects during the Akhilesh regime. Prateek is also in the real estate business and runs a gym, which was also constructed by M/S Shalimar. A few architects and builders close to former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav are also said to have bagged contracts in CG City.

Sources within the party say that after he took over as CM, Yogi has been flooded with complaints of large-scale financial bungling and poor quality work in these projects. Yogi had then forwarded all complaints to the departments concerned. After finding irregularities, prima facie, the state government ordered the probe.

The sources also add that the Akhilesh Yadav government had spent a total of Rs 1,100.10 crore against the sanctioned budget on these projects but all of them remained incomplete. This raises suspicion that project money was siphoned off.

Principal Secretary Urban Planning and Housing department Sadakant said that the LDA V-C has been directed to complete the inquiry within three-days and submit the report to the government.  “Any action will be initiated only after the report is submitted and studied,” said Sadakant.
