The war of word continue between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with the former challenging Adityanath whether he has ever grazed a cow or cleaned its dung.

Siddaramaiah’s statement comes after the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister questioned his Hindu credentials. “When we were in power in Karnataka, we had enacted a law prohibiting cow slaughter. The Congress government as soon as it came to power, repealed that law. The cow is a very scared animal to Hindus. If Siddaramaiah is a Hindu and talks of Hindutva, he shouldn’t allow cow slaughter,” Adityanath had said.

“A lot of Hindus eat beef. If I want to eat, I will, who are they to tell me not to consume beef. I don’t eat beef only because I don’t like to. He should read what Swami Vivekananda said about cow slaughter before preaching us,” Siddaramaiah said on Twitter in Kannada.

Siddaramaiah also questioned Yogi’s own credentials in tending to the cow before attacking him, and tweeted “Has Yogi Adityanath, who is preaching us about conservation of cows, ever grazed cows? I have reared cows, grazed them and cleaned dung. He does not have any moral authority to speak on the issue,” he said, according to a Times of India report.

KPCC Working President Dinesh Gundu Rao however took a softer stand and tweeted, “Siddaramaiah or the Congress has never promoted beef-eating. Our Constitution and our laws allow people to eat food of their choice. Stop dividing India on religion, caste, diet, culture, practice and dress code.”

The ongoing Twitter war between the two is set to escalate in public meetings with the beginning of the countdown to Karnataka assembly elections which are expected to be held in April-May this year.

The Twitter war starting with the "welcome" barb by Siddaramaiah to Adityanath and the sarcastic reply of Yogi has gone viral in Karnataka as supporters of both, BJP and Congress are trolling each other with hashtags "#YogiInBengaluru" and "#HogappaYogi" (Go Yogi).

Adityanath took part in the 'Nava Karnataka Parivartan Yatre' rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Karnataka unit on Sunday, as part of the party's campaign.

Addressing the rally, Adityanath alleged that the Congress government in Karnataka has pushed the state back "due to corruption, divisive politics and anti-development policies".

Yogi also presented Kumbh logo to Nirmalanandnath Swami of Nath Sampraday in Bangalore and attacked Siddaramaiah for endorsing eating beef. This was Adityanath's second visit to Karnataka in less than a month. His last visit was to Hubballi on December 21, last year.
