Buoyed by the success of the Uttar Pradesh Investors' Summit, the Yogi Adityanath government is now planning to host a MSME Summit in the state capital Lucknow to boost its ambitious 'One District One Product' scheme as well as generate about 20 lakh employment opportunities for youth.

State Industries Minister Satish Mahana said that plans are afoot to hold a MSME Summit to give a big boost to the micro, small and medium Enterprise (MSME) sector which is the backbone of the state's economy.

"The main aim of the summit would be to invite entrepreneurs in the MSME sector for giving international branding and marketing of traditional industries of the state under 'one district one product' scheme of the state government," said the minister.

There are about 50 lakh MSME flourishing in Uttar Pradesh. Despite contributing more than 60 per cent of state's industrial output involving economic activity of Rs 12 lakh crore and generating about 40 lakh jobs, the sector remained unorganised.

To promote the traditional industries in the state under the MSME sector, CM Yogi Adityanath had launched 'one district one product' scheme in January this year to bring them under the organised sector.

Uttar Pradesh is famous for its local industries and almost all 75 districts are producing a unique product to boast around. To quote few Meerut is famous for its sports goods then Kanpur is for leather goods and Agra produces best leather footwear being exported to over two dozen countries.

Similarly, Mathura (Peda), Moradabad (braasware), Varanasi (Silk Sarees and beads), Bhadohi (Carpet), Saharanpur (Cane furniture), Aligarh (Lock), Lucknow (Chikan), Kannauj (Itra and Perfume), Mahoba (Paan), Shahjahanpur (Handloom) are few other districts which are famous for its local products world over.

"Despite having so much potential of taking these products across globe, none of the past regimes had ever thought of promoting products of these traditional local industries. The BJP government's thrust is to bring them under the organized sector and invite entrepreneurs who can give international branding and marketing these local products," said the minister.

The minister claimed that the state government has prepared a roadmap to add international standards for these local products to compete in the global markets. "We aim to double the production of these local products by introducing newer technologies and roping in support from experts and investments from entrepreneurs," said Mahana.

The government plans to generate about 20 lakh job avenues and take the economic activity to Rs 20 lakh crore in next four years. It plans to make available easy credit and loans to about 10,000 unemployed youth for setting up local industries under the MSME sector besides inviting investments from entrepreneurs.
