Yogi Adityanath government on Monday completed one year in the office. Though there were muted celebrations due to shocking bypoll defeat, the BJP government announced to make available 4 lakh jobs in 65 government departments to the youth of the state in its second year.

Terming his government’s one year in office as ‘ek saal, nai misaal,’ Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath released a booklet and video tape listing his achievements in the last one year in a low-key function at Lok Bhawan. The function was inaugurated by Governor Ram Naik. The Chief Minister also launched an Anti-Corruption portal to provide a transparent system of governance next four years.

The state-wide grandiose programs, however, were curtailed to celebrate the occasion after crushing defeats in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats, vacated by the Chief Minister and the deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, in recently concluded by-polls. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, about a dozen Union Ministers and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states, party national president AMit Shah and hoards of dignitaries were present when Yogi Adityanath had taken oath of the office and secrecy one year ago on this day. But none of them were to be seen on Monday when he completed one year in office. Perhaps after-shock of the defeats on two Lok Sabha seats.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister boasted that what his government achieved in one year, others could not do so in their five years’ rule. “We effectively put a check on corruption, put an end to gundaraaj by launching tirade against hard-core criminals and organized crime, waived off loans of farmers to the tune of Rs 36,000 crore, made available 18-24 hours power supply in rural and urban areas,” claimed the Chief Minister in his usual rhetoric.

“My government created congenial atmosphere for industrialists to return to Uttar Pradesh. New Industrial policy and single window systeme for clearances resulted in state signing Rs 4.28 lakh crore MoUs during Investors’ Summit for speeding up industrialization in the state,” further claimed Yogi Adityanath.

Setting the agenda for the second year of his government’s rule, Chief Minister announced to make available piped drinking water in parched Bundelkhand with a cost of Rs 2,000 crore. “Our target is to take power lines in about 62,000 pockets which are still under the dark with a cost of Rs 8,000 crore. About 80 lakh poor families will be provided free power connection in next one year. Link roads in 1,500 villages and double lanes in 81 blocs, free soil health cards to 1.75 crore farmers, subsidy in seeds and fertilizer through DBT and Centre of Excellence for potato growers to double famers’ income are some of areas where government will work to take development to the last person of the state,” he declared.

A quick realty check, however, belied Yogi Adityanath’s claims on his government achievement in the past one year. Till date only 18 lakh farmers were benefitted against the target of 80 lakh. The second phase of the much-hyped Rs 36,000 crore farmers’ loan waiver scheme is yet to take off.

Against 8 unviable thermal power stations shut under his government in the last one year, the Chief Minister has announced to set-up a 600 MW power station. A 75 MW Solar Power Plant in Mirzapur with French collaboration was, however, gifted by the Prime Minister recently. The construction was started during Akhilesh Yadav regime.

Though power situation has improved in rural areas but only for 2 hours and it’s mainly due to borrowings from the national grid. In current power situation, promises of speeding industrialization will remain a distant dream and investors even after signing MoUs will shy away if uninterrupted power supply to their units was not assured.

Only 45 per cent of primary school students could be provided free sweaters due to delay in tender processing. About 25 lakhs students of 12th class are yet to get laptops. Except for Gorakhpur, lands for setting up 25 super specialty hospitals and 6 AIIMS are yet to be identified. Promise for making 1.25 lakh Kms of state roads remained on papers only even after renewing deadlines twice.

While welfare schemes and development announced in last year remained incomplete or going on with slow pace, the Chief Minister promised 4 lakh jobs to youth without making any budgetary provisions and not realizing what impact will it make on the state’s budget which has already been passed last month for the financial year 2018-19.

“Yogi Adityanath government has failed to fulfill promises made to the people of the state. As a result, people in Gorakhpur and Phulpur gave the BJP a befitting reply. Another round of Chief Minister’s Modi-like ‘jumlebazzi’ will script their total rout in 2019 Lok Sabha polls,” predicted Samajwadi Party Spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhary.
