Bharti Singh, the wife of Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) VK Singh, on Friday said that she was extremely proud of her husband who supervised the evacuation of Indian nationals from strife-torn Yemen. "I am feeling good and feeling great. My husband is coming after the big war. I am feeling proud," she told ANI.

"When my husband decided to contest from Ghaziabad, I went there and told the people that I have not come here as his wife but as your sister, you have to keep my prestige. Today all of them are waiting for his arrival with me," she added. She also downplayed General (Retd.) Singh's 'presstitutes' comment and said that her husband had never given a wrong remark.

"There is no controversy. People have done. He has never given a wrong remark. He has done a lot of good work for the country, for the party and for the people of the country," she said.

Earlier in the day, the Minister of State for External Affairs tweeted about the last day of the evacuation process. "On this last day all who wished to go were evacuated and no one was left at airport. A satisfying day," General (Retd.) Singh tweeted. "We were refused permission initially, then bombing necessitated plane to be on hold and we had to alter route," he added.

General (Retd.) Singh had earlier on Tuesday stoked a new controversy with his criticism of the media. The former army chief's remark was followed by his contentious statement that visiting the Pakistani High Commission was more exciting than conducting the rescue operations in Yemen.
