Karnataka BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa has been summoned to appear before the police for questioning in connection with an alleged attempt to abduct BJP leader K S Eshwarappa's personal assistant, the police said today.

"Yeddyurappa has been summoned on September 28 in connection with the assault and abduction attempt on N S Vinay," Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Malleswaram sub-division A R Badiger said.

On May 11, nine persons had allegedly attempted to abduct Vinay from a spot near the ISKCON temple in the Mahalakshmi Layout.

The incident came against the backdrop of a heightened discord between Yeddyurappa and Eshwarappa with both sides engaging in mudslinging in public over party affairs.

The subsequent police investigation led to the arrest of nine persons, including Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader Rajendra Urs.

The interrogation of the nine arrested persons revealed the alleged involvement of Yeddyurappa's personal assistant Santosh, who too was questioned, the police said.
Vinay said there were nine persons who had attacked and attempted to abduct him on May 11.

"I somehow managed to escape, but broke my hand. I identified some of them during the identification parade," he added.
