YC Modi next NIA head, Misra named SSB DG

The Centre on Monday made IPS officer YC Modi the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He will take over from Sharad Kumar, who completes his tenure on October 30.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by PM Narendra Modi also cleared the name of another 1984-batch IPS officer Rajni Kant Misra as the next Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal. Misra will replace Archana Ramasundaram, who retires on September 30. Misra is currently Additional Director General at the Border Security Force.

YC Modi, an Assam-Meghalaya cadre officer, will hold the post of NIA chief till May 31, 2021. He will also take charge as Officer on Special Duty in the NIA immediately to ensure smooth transition. He is currently a special director with the CBI where he has handled the Sheena Bora murder case. He also investigated Gujarat riots cases. Sharad Kumar was appointed chief of the NIA in July 2013 and was given two extensions. In October, he was given a one-year extension.
