In a tragic incident, which happened in the wee hours of Sunday morning, an Innova rammed into a canter on Yamuna Expressway, near Mathura. In the accident, 3 AIIMS doctors, two of them women have lost their lives. 4 doctors are critical, and are currently being treated.

A report prepared by police sources data and the National Crime Records Bureau states that around thirty accidents on an average every week are reported from the Yamuna Expressway.

Here is a 10-point guide to Noida-Agra Yamuna Expressway:

1. Yamuna Expressway is a 205-km stretch to connect Greater Noida and Agra in Uttar Pradesh.

2. It is India's longest 6-lane controlled-access expressway that starts from Greater Noida and ends at Kuberpur on NH 2.

3. In 2012, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav inaugurated the Yamuna Expressway from Lucknow. 

4. The Yamuna Expressway project, proposed by then chief minister Mayawati, cost around Rs 128.39 billion.

5. The construction for the Noida-Agra expressway was started in December 2007 and completed on August 2012, two years ahead of the proposed completion date. Akhilesh then inugurated the project on August 9, 2012.

6. There are CCTV cameras installed in every 5 km along the expressway for surveillance and ensure safety and accident assistance.  It also has a toll free helpline and SOS booths along the strecth.

7. Every 25 km stretch, the expressway also has one highway patrol and mobile radars to check maximum and minimum speed limit.

8. The speed limit of the expressway has been clocked at 100 km/h (62 mph) for vehicles.

9. The expressway is said to have reduced the travel time from 4 hours to 1 hour and 40 minutes between Greater Noida and Agra.

10. The Yamuna Expressway is a fighter jet-friendly highway. From Mirage 2000 fighter jet to massive C-130J Super Hercules, around 16 aircraft of the Indian Air Force took landed on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway as part of a special drill on October 2017.
