Asserting that BJP is strong in the country, Labour Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday said his party would win the upcoming assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana, and that it would be wrong to speculate on BJP's prospects on the basis of the bypoll results. "If somebody wants to become happy by seeing the bypoll results, I do not have any objection to that. But it would be wrong to speculate (about the outcome in the forthcoming state polls) based on this results.

"BJP is strong in the country. Those states in which elections are going to happen, when their results come, the indications that come then will be the right indications. BJP will win in Maharashtra and Haryana," Tomar told reporters on the sidelines of an event here. BJP was dealt with a severe blow in the recently-held bypolls whose results were announced yesterday. The ruling party lost 13 of the 23 seats held by it in its stronghold of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat while the Congress put up a surprise showing in two of these states. The reverses came on top of BJP's disappointing performance in the assembly bypolls in Bihar, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh in the past two months.
