Wrap up Narada, Saradha scam probe, CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana tells Bengal officers

CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana on Wednesday visited West Bengal in connection with the ongoing probe in Narada tapes and Saradha chit fund cases. 

During his meeting with the investigating officers of different chit fund cases, Asthana said that he would want the investigations to be wrapped up as soon as possible. He also asked officers to keep him apprised of every development as far as the Narada sting case was concerned.

Sources said that he wanted speedy investigation into all the ponzi firm cases and a special impetus to be paid into the Narada sting case. Experts said that it would be a tact to keep the Trinamool Congress under a lot of pressure ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Just before the 2016 Assembly elections, the Narada sting operation tapes were released in which 12 Trinamool Congress leaders and an IPS officer were seen accepting money on camera in return of assurances of forwarding all cooperation to CEO of the news portal who posed as a businessman and had approached the leaders.

The meeting which was conducted on the 15th floor office at Nizam Palace at 11 am today was attended by investigation officer (IO) of Saradha scam Tathagata Bardhan, IO of Tower Group scam case Prosenjit Mukherjee, CBI legal advisor in the Saradha and Rose Valley case Hemanta Shukla, IO of Narada case Ranjit Kumar and SP of the same case, PK Panigrahi among others.

Sources said that during the meeting Asthana expressed his dissatisfaction over the progress in the Narada investigation case and questioned Kumar why a progress report was not sent to him in New Delhi at a regular basis. Asthana had gone through the reports prepared by officers and tried to find out if there were any loopholes in those. He also gave out instructions to investing officers regarding how to go about in order to expedite the matters speedily.

It was found out that some more heavyweight leaders would be summoned by the CBI before August when the matter would be heard at the court next.
