A day after the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Hazratbal in Srinagar was shut down due to clashes between students after India's loss to West Indies in the semi-final of the World Twenty 20, the Director General of the institute has stated that the situation inside the campus is normal and the academic activities would resume from Monday.

It is reported that two groups of students at the institute, one from Kashmir and the other from another state, fought after local students burst crackers late Thursday night after Team India lost the last four-match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rajat Gupta, Director of the NIT, Srinagar, has reassured the students, faculty and parents that the temporary situation arising out of tensions from disappointment at the outcome of the cricket match on March 31 had been overcome.

Issuing a statement, he also said the district administration and local authorities had extended the fullest cooperation, enabling the situation to be contained. The institute is peaceful, and infrastructure and facilities functional.
The group of students have been counselled in the presence of senior officials. The Director, NIT Srinagar, assured the parents, students and all concerned that there is no cause for apprehension and students are safe, secure and on campus.

All scheduled programs in the institution will take place, including the 'National Research Scholar Conclave' to be held on April 2 and 3.
