World Economic Forum 2018 | With live Yoga sessions, India's soft power to be on display in Davos

India's economic soft power will also be on full display at the 48th World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tomorrow lead a delegation of 130 participants.

Not only India's economic prowess but its soft power will also be on full display at the 48th World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tomorrow lead a delegation of 130 participants. 

Exquisite desi cuisine and live Yoga sessions will be the highlight of the Davos Summit where over 3,000 world leaders from business, politics, art, academia and civil society will converge at small ski resort town on snow-covered Alps mountains. 

At the summit, India aims to showcase its economic potential, as well as its soft power, reflected in the popularity of yoga as well as its cuisine. 

In the Indian delegation of 130 participants, there will be two gurus who will lead daily Yoga sessions at the summit.

"For the first time, Yoga will be performed on the platform of World Economic Forum. Two of our Aacharyas will be leaving for Davos today and will be taking two sessions, one each in the morning and evening," Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev said today. 

Sibi George, India's Ambassador to Switzerland, said Yoga is an important introduction by India this year. 

"Yoga an important element, this time we introduced. There's connection of Himalayas with the Alps. 2 famous Gurus have come from India and they're going to train in one of the sessions in the Alps and one in the city of Davos during the summit," George told ANI. 

Besides yoga training sessions, Indian heritage and culture will also be on full display in Davos. 

Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan will also be honoured with the 'Crystal Award' for his work towards improving the state of the world. 

The summit will be declared open by WEF Chairman Klaus Schwabtomorrow evening with a welcome message on the meeting's theme, 'Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World'.

India will host the 'welcome reception' in the evening with the country's "exquisite cuisine and age-hold Yoga heritage as well as the spirit of a young, innovative New India".

The official sessions will begin on Tuesday when Modi will deliver the 'opening plenary'. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to attend Davos meeting in about 20 years since H D Deve Gowda in 1997.
