Police in Kolkata have busted a cricket betting racket and arrested six people besides recovering over Rs 35 lakh cash. Special police teams were sent to conduct raids following a tip-off.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kankar Prasad Barui, said Sanjay Bagaria, the prime accused in the cricket betting racket was caught red-handed on Wednesday. All the accused have been taken into police custody for further interrogation as the sleuths are eyeing to nab the entire racket involved in cricket betting, he added. "We have arrested total six people in the case. We have recovered rupees 3,527,700. We have also seized 14 mobile phones, two laptops, some computer hard disks, cash counting machines, calculators and other apparatus. As per primary investigation, it is an inter-state racket of cricket betting. Bookies from Rajasthan, Delhi and West Bengal are involved into it," said Barui.

He added highly modified software had also been restored from the house of Bagaria. Meanwhile, Cyberabad Police Commissioner, C . Anand, said all the authorities concerned have been alerted ahead of the India- Australia match today.

"Actually in the last one month, we've got three very important gangs which resort to cricket betting and other types of betting. The related members and equipment was seized, vehicles were seized on a big scale. So it is slightly under control but faced with the weak law, to deal with this type of activity, people who are involved in this activity are not really scared. So we are expecting some kind of activity today, tonight and we've spent all our informants," said Anand.
