The Chief Minister ordered that the huge area of more than three acre should be used as a recreational and creative centre for the youth with food plazas.
Ram Niwas Bagh will become a new Wonderland for youth to unleash their creative pursuits in dramatics, music and other art forms.
The Wonderland’s idea came from Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. On a visit to inaugurate the Sawan Bhadho Garden in the precincts of Ram Niwas Bagh two years ago, the Chief Minister was sore seeing huge area on the side of the Albert Hall being used as a dumping yard by the JDA and the PWD. Once it was a garden for the children and a toy train plied there. But for more than seven years this garden was lying ruins and had became an eyesore.
The Chief Minister ordered that the huge area of more than three acre should be used as a recreational and creative centre for the youth with food plazas.
“The Wonderland as it would be called has been built with the youth in mind. It’s going to be a place for chilling out and is ideally located with all the educational institutions and the university located nearby.
The food court will be the biggest attraction, not only for the youth, but also tourists.The amphitheatre will be for the performing artists with greenroom facilities. It will have a very large area for parking with its own entry and exit points that would not disturb the normal traffic passing through the garden,” said Rameshwar Lal Mathur, executive engineer (Garden) of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA).
The JDA has spent Rs four crore in raising this facilities. It will have a food court spread in 650 square metre area and the amphitheatre is spread in 256 square metre area.
Beautiful lights worth Rs 25 lakh will illuminate the garden and would give it a very distinct look with its green trees and lawns.
City architect Harsh Mittal has designed the Wonderland. He was the architect of the Sawan Bhadho Garden also located within the Ram Niwas Bagh.
“The chief minister Vasundhara Raje was very particular that this place should be developed as an open air place and should not look like a concrete jungle. She had the Dilli Haat, the vibrant and happening place in the national capital as the model.
She was very particular that no structures should be built that would overshadow the Albert Hall. Thus, the amphitheatre was built on the backyard near the SMS Medical College playground. This open air venue will be larger than the one at the Ravindra Manch. Like the ancient Greek and Roman theater-style stages the spectator will sit in a semi circle on one side. The open air theatre part is spread in 256 square metre and it can be used for various events with enough space area leveraging,”said Mittal.
The food court will have 28 shops and a central dining area where fixed seats and tables have been laid out.
The JDA has invited bids from the private operators to operate and maintain the Wonderland.It will lease out the property for 10 years and the minimum price has been fixed at Rs 10 crore for 10 years.
