Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar warned on Sunday that his government would not spare those doing mischief, hours after Union Minister Giriraj Singh met the family members of a riot-accused right-wing man.

BJP leader Singh met them in his Parliamentary constituency Nawada and accused the administration of suppressing Hindus, a day after he met VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders, held on charges of rioting last year, in Nawada's jail.

This follows a controversy around another Union Minister, Jayant Sinha, felicitating seven convicted cow vigilantes at his residence in Jharkhand's Hazaribag on Thursday.

Kumar's JD-U is in alliance with BJP in Bihar.

Singh visited VHP leader Kailash Vishwakarma's home on Sunday and asked his family members to keep patience. "The family members are terrorised. The administration should re-look into the accusations because these people have always helped in maintaining peace and harmony in the area," Singh told reporters after a 30-minute meeting with the family.

He said, "I am helpless because I am in the government. But, the administration's job is to do an impartial probe. Since 2014, I have seen these people work for social and communal peace in the area."

He had met Kailash and Bajrang Dal's Jitendra in Nawada's jail on Saturday and called it unfortunate that they had been jailed even after they worked for peace in the area on multiple occasions, whereas those who had indulged in violence had not been charged (because they belonged to a particular section of the society).

The Opposition targeted Singh over his meetings, and questioned CM Kumar's "policy of no tolerance of crime, corruption and communalism".

The CM was quoted in Delhi as saying that a Union Minister is meeting people in jail, but his government neither shields nor implicates anyone. "The government will not spare those doing such mischief. We will not tolerate communalism; doesn't matter whether the government remains or goes," he reportedly said.
