Despite the announcements made by the state government, the victim's family has sought for a written assurance about government jobs to be given to Gurdaspur Superintendant of Police (Detective) Baljit Singh's children. The family members of Baljit have said that the dead body won't be cremated until they receive the written assurance.

A big crowd was seen outside Baljit's residence to mourn his death.

Widow of the late SP, Kulwant Kaur has asked from the government that her son Maninder Pal be appointed as SP and her daughter be made tehsildar. The family was left wandering for two years to get a job when Baljit's father, also a police officer, Achhar Singh was killed in a similar fashion, reported Zee. Kulwant Kaur also blamed Punjab Police for having substandard weapons.

If my husband had ultra modern automated weapons, he would have been alive."

Gurdaspur SP was the third of his family to have been killed while fighting terrorists. His father Achhar Singh, an assistant sub inspector, was killed in a suspected terrorist attack almost three decades ago. Baljit's first cousin Manpreet Singh, a constable in Punjab police, was killed by terrorists as well in Tarn Taran in 1991.

Talking to an English daily, the officer's 81-year-old uncle Amar Singh said, "First my brother, then my son and now Baljit, our family has been on the forefront when it comes to serving the nation. They have made us proud…but on a personal front, it's an irreparable loss to us."
