Rajasthan government on Friday suspended the Sarpanch, Deputy Sarpanch and two Ward Panch's for not informing the district administration about the incident in which a woman was allegedly paraded half-naked on a donkey at Thuravad village in Jaipur.

"Thurawad Sarpanch Bhagwati Devi, Deputy Sarpanch Chagan Singh, and two Ward Panch's have been suspended. They failed to inform officers and the district administration about the atrocity on the woman on November 8," according to a release by the state government.

PHED Minister Kiran Maheshwari visited the village today and gave a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the woman.

Five police personnel including the SHO of Charbhuja police station and as many others employees have already been suspended for showing laxity in duty.

A 40-year-old woman was allegedly paraded half-naked on a donkey by members of a community Panchayat at Thuravad village November 8 on the suspicion of her being involved in a murder case.
Police have so far arrested 42 accused in the case.

Meanwhile, a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary C S Rajan was held here to review the progress in investigation in the case and also in another case of sexual harassment of minor girls of a mercy home at Jaipur.

In the matter of girls' exploitation, police have already arrested the owner of the home Johnson Chacko and his wife Lily. Chacko was running the hostel illegally and was allegedly harassing the girls for some time.

After a girl narrated her plight to her school teacher, the teacher informed police following which raids were conducted at the mercy home on Wednesday evening. In the meeting, the CS gave directions to the officers to make sure that no such incidents occur and also laid stress upon creating awareness among people.

On the other hand, a group of women activists met the victim at Thuravad village in Rajsamand and alleged that Khap Panchayats were being patronised by politicians for political gains.

"We met the victim who was scared due to the incident, which was very shameful. We assured full support and help to the woman," Sumitra Chopra, Kusum Saiwal and other activists said at a joint press conference in Jaipur.
