A woman, who sustained multiple injuries in an accident last week and was operated under torchlight at a local hospital in Bihar's Saharsa district, died at a private hospital in Patna on the interceding night of Wednesday and Thursday. The family has blamed her death on the medical negligence of the doctors treating her and the apathy of the administration.

Bihar health minister Mangal Pandey had ordered a probe into the matter, after a video of a woman named Ruby Kumari being operated in torchlight went viral last week. The fourth grade employee, Shambhu Malik, who had administered the stitches to Ruby under a torchlight, has been suspended by the state government.

Ruby, a teacher by profession, met with an accident while on a morning walk with her husband, who has also passed away.

"As we were not satisfied by the treatment at the Sadar hospital, we took her to a private clinic in Saharsa, where the doctors misled us for two days, saying she was fine," said Omkaar, a family member of the deceased.

He also alleged, "No one from the administration has contacted us. They are trying to suppress the matter."
