A trip to get their child admitted to Asaram Bapu’s ashram near Bhopal turned into a nightmare for a Mumbai couple on Wednesday, when the woman was allegedly gangraped in a moving car.

According to the police, the incident took place when Ravi (name changed), a 33-year-old businessman from Mumbai Central, was returning from the ashram in Gandhinagar, on the outskirts of Bhopal, along with his wife.

Ravi told the police they were looking for transport at around 8pm when a black Innova car with four youths in it stopped by and offered a lift. As soon as the couple boarded the car, the youths whipped out a pistol and threatened Ravi into silence. They then raped his wife for two hours, while the car kept moving. Ravi said the car’s windows were tinted.

The four then dumped the couple at a dark spot. Later in the night, Ravi filed a complaint at the Gandhinagar police station. Superintendent of police Jaideep Prasad has announced a reward of Rs5,000 for information on the accused.

Senior police officers told DNA that two bracelets with the names Sattu and Mukesh inscribed were found near the spot from where the couple was picked up.
