Officials of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a woman officer of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) department for allegedly accepting Rs2 lakh as bribe in her Bandra office on Tuesday. However, the ACB has also been probing the role of assistant commissioner Gautam Vishwanath Jagtap in the case, who was given an additional charge.

The arrested officer has been identified as Sarala Khatavkar.

According to an ACB official, the complainant is a resident of Ahmednagar district and supplies milk to several agencies in Thane and Mumbai. In February last year, the FDA officer had registered a case against the complainant for selling sub-standard milk.

"Khatavkar had called the complainant and asked him to meet Jagtap. Jagtap had demanded Rs2 lakh from him. However, after negotiations, he took Rs1 lakh from him. Later, around a month ago, Khatavkar again called the complainant and demanded Rs50,000 from him. He asked the complainant to meet her near D-mart in Vashi. The complainant told her that he could give her only Rs25,000," said the ACB official.

"In December last year, the FDA department sent a legal notice to the complainant and his accomplice asking them to be present in the office for a hearing," added the official.

"The complainant visited the FDA office along with his accomplice where Jagtap and Khatavkar told them that two more cases have been registered against them for supplying sub-standard milk. The duo then demanded Rs2 lakh more to dispose of the cases" added the official.

The complainant then approached the ACB office in Navi Mumbai. The ACB verified the facts and laid a trap in its Bandra office and arrested her for accepting Rs2 lakh bribe.
