In a suspected case of dowry death, a woman along with her four-year-old daughter were allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws at Magura village, the police said today.

Hearing their cries for help at around noon yesterday, neighbours rushed to their house and immediately took them to Memari hospital.

The duo were later shifted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital where both of them succumbed to their burns yesterday, they said

The woman and the daughter were identified as Manira Yasmin and Kulsun Khatun respectively, residents of Magura village under Pandua police station limits.

The father of the deceased, Nurula Migga, lodged a complaint alleging that his daughter was set ablaze for dowry, the police said.

"Demand of Rs 50,000 was made by the victim's in-laws during her marriage and her parents could only pay Rs 25,000.

The woman, thereafter, was subjected to torture and it increased after she gave birth to a girl child," the police said.

The woman's parents-in-law were arrested.

Her husband, works in a jewellery shop in Hyderabad.
