A pregnant woman in Chhattisgarh?s Korba district died of infection, after carrying a fetus that had died in her womb, after the doctors at private hospitals allegedly refused to attend as her family was unable to pay the fee.

"We were referred to Bilaspur. We did not want to go there. Then we went to Jamuna where she was admitted. They asked us to do sonography. When we did the sonography, we were told the baby has already died. They asked us to bring blood. We could arrange for blood by evening," said the victim's husband.

Her relatives took her to a private hospital where her treatment started but due to her serious condition she died. "They asked me whether I have deposited the money and said they won't treat her if I don't pay immediately. I requested them (doctors) a lot, I told them I will arrange for money soon but they didn't pay heed to my request. We went to another hospital and even they refused to give treatment to my wife. Then ultimately one hospital admitted her," he added.

Many such incidents have come into light over the past few months.

On Tuesday, Odisha witnessed another incident of 'body horror' that took place in Jajpur district.

A tribal woman was denied a mortuary van for her kin and she had to take the body in trolley-rickshaw due to lack of transport facilities.

Earlier in August, a man from Rajasthan's Kherli village waited with his dead wife for nearly two and a half hours for the ambulance to arrive.

Another shocking incident that surfaced was from Odisha's Malkangiri district where a couple faced apathy from ambulance drivers as they were allegedly forced to get off the ambulance after their seven-year-old daughter died while reaching the hospital.
