With Uttar Pradesh assembly election in mind, human resource development ministry is preparing a list of probable projects that it can undertake in the state in the next one year.

HRD minister Smriti Irani is one of the probable faces the BJP is likely to project for the state's chief ministership. During her recent visit to Amethi, on the occasion of Modi government's second anniversary celebrations, Irani had inaugurated a satellite campus of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow.

Sources in HRD ministry informed that the minister has sought a list of probable projects that the ministry can undertake in the state in the next one year.

In an inter-ministerial note, details have been sought from both school and higher education division.

“The idea is to bring parity in the regions that have remained neglected in the state both in terms of higher and school education,” said a ministry functionary.

While school education is mostly the function of the state, ministry can inaugurate new off campus in Uttar Pradesh in the months to come.

Earlier this year, ministry had received a similar note from the office of the prime minister. “PMO wanted to enquire about money spent by the ministry in the past one and a half years under various schemes in Uttar Pradesh. A list has been prepared,” said a ministry official.

Smriti Irani, who had contested and lost from Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh in 2014 general election, has been pro-actively working in Amethi. Since May 2014, she is trying to nurture Amethi as her electoral constituency. She has since 2014 made eight visits to the constituency.
