Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counter KP Oli issued a joint statement after holding a round of talks marking a new India-Nepal bonhomie. Both nations agreed to crank up cooperation in connectivity, trade, agriculture and border security in a move to strengthen the partnership as per Nepal's priorities. In a bid to boost the ties further, India said it will conduct a pilot project in Nepal on organic farming and soil health monitoring to help in developing agriculture and allied sectors.

The joint statement further stated that during the talks Oli said that his government attaches high importance on strengthening friendly relations with India.

In a separate joint statement dealing with the new partnership in agriculture, he noted the critical importance and contribution of agriculture and allied sectors to their respective economies. The Ministers for Agriculture of the two countries will focus in this part of the partnership.

In another joint statement related to developing waterways stated that the two PMs agreed to harness the untapped potential of inland waterways to contribute towards overall economic development of the region. "Taking cognizance of their geographies and noting the development of inland waterways in both countries, the two Prime Ministers took the landmark decision to develop the inland waterways for the movement of cargo, within the framework of trade and transit arrangements, providing additional access to sea for Nepal," it said.

To facilitate the movement of traffic-in-transit, the two leaders directed their respective officials to formulate and mutually agree upon the requisite procedures and modalities for including inland waterways as an additional means of transport in the Protocol to Treaty of Transit between India and Nepal.

On developing the rail link between Raxaul in India to Kathmandu in Nepal, both sides agreed to carry out preparatory survey work within one year. The two sides would finalise the implementation and funding modalities of the project based on the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

They also appreciated the progress made in the implementation of Phase-I of the India-Nepal cross-border rail link projects.

In a bid to boost the ties with the neighbouring country, India in a joint statement said that it will conduct a pilot project in Nepal on organic farming and soil health monitoring to help in developing agriculture and allied sectors.
