CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Monday said the party will find out its shortcomings and weaknesses and take necessary steps to make it strong and effective with a powerful organisation.
"We will critically analyse what are our shortcomings and weaknesses and take necessary steps to see that CPI(M) becomes a strong and effective party with a powerful organisation, which is linked to all sections of the people," Karat said at inaugural session 24th state conference of CPI(M) which began here.

Turning to the saffron party, the CPI(M) general secretary said, "With the BJP government assuming power at the Centre, we have seen an aggressive pursuit of neo-liberal economic policies, which are adversely affecting all sections of people. We have also seen the offensive of the Hindutva communal forces."
The five-day conference is likely to chalk out steps to revamp the party organisation and bring in new faces ahead of next year's Assembly elections in West Bengal.
It also assumes significance in view of next month's election to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
The conference was being held at a time when the party has not only failed to gain its lost ground from the ruling Trinamool Congress, but has also been losing opposition space to the BJP.
The series of district conferences have already witnessed change of guard in the party leadership including in Burdwan and West Midnapore, with several party veterans handing over the charge to younger generation.
In the conference, the CPI(M) leadership is likely to dwell on its tactical line, which it would follow for next three years in the state.
