Stressing on the need for a 'peaceful situation', Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that his government will have no option but to resign if the territorial integrity of the state is not safeguarded under the Naga Peace Accord. Singh, who is in New Delhi with over 30 members of Manipur BJP, including his council of ministers, is meeting PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday to discuss the issue.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Singh said that the reaction of the people of Manipur will be "uncontrollable" if the Naga peace talks leave out the interests of Manipur. "The people of Manipur cannot be left out of the discussion," said Singh. He also met Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the same.

A close aide of the CM, who is in Delhi, said that as part of their demands to the Centre, the delegation wants two Manipuri representatives to be part of the talks. "We do not want a repeat of what happened during the NDA I. Our simple request is to make sure that Manipur is not left out of the talks," the aide said. In June 2001, under NDA I, a ceasefire declaration between the Centre and the NSCN led to the death of over 18 people in Manipur in protests that followed.

Singh's move comes amid reports that the Naga Peace Accord will be signed in the next few weeks. In the days to the run up to the state's Assembly elections this year, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio had declared that the Accord will be signed on August 10.

Other Issue

Manipur CM N Biren Singh also met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday to discuss issues pertaining to the Indo-Myanmar border. After reports of a border pillar (no 81) erected inside India territory led to a furor, Singh had written to Swaraj seeking a survey. On Monday, Swaraj promised to send a team for the reevaluation.

"Today, my officials and I met the Hon'ble EAM @SushmaSwaraj ji and discussed the Indo-Myanmar border pillar issues impacting Manipur. We are very satisfied with Sushma ji agreeing to send a team of MEA, MHA, and Survey of India for the verification of BP 80-82," tweeted Singh.
