Will senior Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam campaign for the party in the Lok Sabha elections? Recently, Sena MP Anant Geete was quoted by sections of the media as saying that party chief Uddhav Thackeray has banned Kadam from taking part in the campaign. The reports created a huge flutter in the Sena circles because Kadam is a senior leader of the party hailing from the Konkan and was also opposition in the legislature. Shiv Sainiks from Konkan region were particularly upset over these reports.
In an effort to pacify the cadres, the Sena had to issue a press release denying any ban on Kadam. Sena MP Sanjay Raut issued a statement, saying the reports were baseless and were aimed at creating confusion. He said words were put into Geete's mouth. Raut claimed that Sena leaders were fully involved in the poll campaign. Interestingly, Geete has not denied having making the statement. Kadam, on his part, is closely watching the developments. In the past also, there were reports that Kadam was close to former Sena leader and current Congress minister Narayan Rane. There were even suggestions that Kadam may quit the Sena. These were denied by him. There is an anti-Kadam lobby within the Sena which has been gunning for him for long and trying to create suspicion in the minds of senior party leaders about his loyalty to Uddhav.
