Uttar Pradesh Nav Nirman Sena (UPNS) on Sunday said that they will not let a temple dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse be constructed in the district.
"How can a person who shot an unarmed saint be messiah of Hindus? If any such temple is constructed we will vandalise it," UPNS Chief Amit Jani said at a party meeting here.
Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha had allegedly performed a ceremony here last week for construction of a "temple" dedicated to Godse, following which the administration ordered a probe into the matter.
The "bhumi pujan" (prayers) were performed at a temple on Shaarda Road here. During the event, the national general secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha Acharya Madan allegedly praised Godse, calling him a true patriot and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issues of Ram Temple and revocation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.
A case has been registered against Madan for allegedly making the objectionable remarks and announcing that a "temple" dedicated to Godse will be constructed here.
