Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Tuesday said the force is ready to eliminate terrorists infiltrating Kashmir from across the border a day after Indian forces killed Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar's nephew in Pulwama district.

General Rawat said security forces also seized an assault rifle which NATO forces use in Afghanistan from the three terrorists which indicated Pakistan was aiding terror operations in Kashmir.

Rawat said it is clear that terrorists are getting support from across the border.

Based on ground intelligence, agencies have warned security forces that Pakistan army along with terror groups and ISI has stepped up attempts to infiltrate and carry out attacks in Kashmir to derail efforts of special representative Dineshwar Sharma.

"It doesn't matter if he is Masood Azhar's nephew or anyone else," he said.

Talha Rashid, was killed along with two other terrorists in the gun fight which also claimed the life of one Indian soldier.

He added that the aim of the forces was to neutralise terrorists irrespective of where they came from.

"If any terrorists carry out activities that put the life and property of our citizens at risk, if they target any building, police station or Army, they are troubling the citizens. Our attempt is to neutralise whoever is involved in terror activities," he said.

While there has been an escalation of violence in the last one year, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said that the number of stone pelting incidents have come down as a result of choking of funds after demonetisation.

DNA reported on Monday that intelligence inputs indicate that two days after the announcement of Sharma's appointment on October 23, Syed Salauddin who heads the United Jihad Council, an umbrella group of terror organisations active in Kashmir in a meeting on October 25 gave instructions to plan a massive infiltration with the help of Pakistani army.

According to the intelligence inputs his instructions were that 45-50 terrorists should infiltrate India and carry out strikes aiming to disrupt any efforts for a dialogue.
