A day after dissolving the committee formed to hold reunion talks with AIADMK (Amma) faction, former Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam on Monday announced that MLAs belonging to his faction would raise the issues in which Palaniswami government failed on the floor of the Assembly, when it meets on June 14.

"Our MLAs will be meeting at 9 am on June 14 to discuss and decide on issues to be raised in the Assembly. We will raise the issues concerning the people as it is our responsibility," Panneerselvam said.

Panneerselvam's announcement gains significance as the Palaniswami government survives on a wafer thin majority of five MLAs and is already facing a revolt in its camp. As many as 32 MLAs in the ruling AIADMK (Amma) faction had defied the decision of senior ministers to sideline party general secretary VK Sasikala and her family and met deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran.

The ruling faction is facing internal turmoil following Dinakaran's return to the thick of politics after being jailed in connection with the Election Commission bribery case in Tihar prison in New Delhi.

On Sunday, Panneerselvam announced the disbanding of the committee formed to hold reunion talks after a major chunk of MLAs sided with Dinakaran. He accused the Palanisami faction of "enacting dramas and not coming up with constructive action." He said after the panels were constituted in April by the two sides to take forward the merger proposal "they continuously enacted dramas... we are not ready to stage dramas with them". He said since people too were not in favour of a merger, the decision to disband the panel to facilitate unification was announced.

Panneerselvam faction has set two pre-conditions for the merger that the Sasikala and her family should be formally expelled from the party while a CBI probe should be ordered into the circumstances surrounding former chief minister Jayalalithaa's death. However, sources said that the OPS camp also sought chief minister's chair for Panneerselvam.
