Union minister and BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya asked the Congress to clarify its stand on its general secretary Digvijaya Singh's controversial comments on the Telangana Police. The Congress veteran, in a Twitter post yesterday, alleged the Telangana Police have set up a "bogus" ISIS website to radicalise Muslim youth and encourage them to join the terrorist outfit.

The TRS government denied the charge. "Why is the Congress party silent on Digvijaya's comments? It should make its stand clear on the issue. A responsible leader like him (Singh) should not have made such comments," Dattatreya said.

"Many police personnel have lost their lives while discharging their duties. I request the Telangana government to act suitably (in the case)," he told reporters here. Following the comments two complaints were filed against the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister.

Meanwhile, Dattatreya said the Telangana government has sought over Rs 2,300 crore fund from the Centre for bifurcating agricultural and non-agricultural power feeder lines.
Dattatreya, the Lok Sabha MP from Secunderabad, said he will discuss the issue with Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal soon.

elangana's ruling TRS reacted sharply to the "most irresponsible and reprehensible" remarks of the senior Congress leader and demanded that he withdraw those.

"Telangana Police has set up a bogus ISIS site which is radicalising Muslim youth and encouraging them to become ISIS modules," Singh said in a post on his Twitter page.

"The issue is whether Telangana Police should be trapping Muslim Youths in becoming ISIS modules by posting inflammatory information?

"Is It Ethical? Is it Moral? Has KCR authorised Telangana Police to trap Muslim Youths and encourage them to join ISIS? If he has then shouldn't he own the responsibility and resign? If he hasn't then shouldn't he enquire and punish those who are responsible for committing such a heinous crime?" Singh said in a series of tweets.

Addressing the media on Monday, Singh clarified that the tweets were based on discussions that took place during an Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) meeting held last week.

‘During the ATS meeting, it was revealed that the Madhya Pradesh Government derived its information on those involved in the train blast in Shajapur district and the subsequent encounter of Saifullah in Kanpur from the Telangana Police, which found photographs of the blast that were sent to the ISIS,’ he said.

‘To curb the increasing radicalisation among the Muslim youth, the Telangana Police took up the initiative with a good intention, but the method was wrong,’ Singh added.

Singh re-iterated that the rise of communal powers would not be tolerated, adding that during the counter-terrorism meeting, several anti-terrorist organisations also agreed to diminish radicalisation among the Muslim youth.

‘I would now like to ask KCR and the Telangana Police, am I wrong’’ he said while questioning the police and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR).

Most irresponsible and reprehensible thing coming from a former CM (of Madhya Pradesh). Request you to withdraw these comments unconditionally or provide evidence," Rama Rao, the son of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, tweeted.

Later, talking to reporters on the issue in New Delhi he wanted to know if the Congress high command endorsed Singh's remarks.

The Congress leader, who continues to be the party's general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana after being divested of the charge of Karnataka and Goa on Saturday, said on Twitter that it was after Telangana police's information "that MP police arrested those who were responsible for a bomb blast in a train in Shajapur district".

"It also resulted in Saifullaha encounter in Kanpur the same day," he said.

Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma said the Congress leader s comments would demoralise the police force and lower the image of personnel engaged in fighting anti-national forces.

"Unfounded allegations from a senior, responsible leader will lower the morale and image of police engaged in fighting anti-national forces," Sharma said.
