Is Jammu and Kashmir on the path of creating its own Mahagatbandan to take on the BJP and its allies in 2019 polls? After bitter fallout with BJP, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is warming up to its arch rivals --Congress and National Conference – in the state.

Despite the Governor putting spanner in their plans to form the government, the three parties are rejoicing the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly with Mehbooba going all-out to thank former chief minister Omar Abdullah and Congress leader Ambika Soni for their support.

“In my twenty six year old career as a politician, I thought I had seen it all! But like they say never say never! Nevertheless, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Omar Abdullah and Ambika Soni for helping us achieve the seemingly impossible”, tweeted Mehbooba soon after governor dissolved the Assembly

Mehbooba said since the past five months, regardless of political affiliations, they shared the view that the state assembly be dissolved immediately to avert horse trading & defections.  “Oddly enough our pleas fell on deaf ears. But who would have thought that the very idea of a grand coalition would give such jitters”, she said.

Omar Abdullah too joined in and wished good lock for the battle ahead.  “And I never thought I’d be retweeting anything you said while agreeing with you. Politics truly is a strange world. Good luck for the battle ahead. Once again the wisdom of the people will prevail”, Omar tweeted ins response to Mehbooba’s tweet.

What added a pun to the whole saga was Mehbooba’s tweet on the Facsimile at Raj Bhawan. “In todays age of technology, it is very strange that the fax machine at His Excelency Governor’s residence didn’t receive our fax but swiftly issued one regarding the assembly dissolution”, she said.

Adding to the pun, Omar suggested that the Raj Bhawan needs a new fax machine. “J&K Raj Bhavan needs a new fax machine urgently”, he said.

Earlier, Mehbooba in a tweet said she was not able to fax her letter to the Raj Bhawan for staking claim for government formation. "J&K Raj Bhavan needs a new fax machine urgently," Omar quipped after PDP president went public with her letter on Twitter. Earlier Wednesday, Sajad Lone, leader of the People's Conference, also staked claim to form a government in the state with the support of the 25-legislator strong BJP and "more than 18" other lawmakers.

In a letter to Governor Satya Pal Malik, Lone, whose party has two MLAs, including himself, said he has the support of more than required number of legislators in the assembly to form a government.
After the PDP's claim to form the government, former deputy chief minister and senior J&K BJP leader Kavinder Gupta said the efforts are being made on "instructions of Pakistan" and urged the people to thwart the attempt.
The fast-paced developments began Tuesday with disgruntled PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh hitting out at a possible alliance between his party and National Conference saying "it will be a government of one religion" and people and Jammu and Ladakh regions would not like it. Despite opposition from some quarters, the attempts at government formation by PDP, NC and Congress intensified on Wednesday and culminated in dissolution of the assembly by the Governor.

Governor's rule was clamped in the state on June 19 for a 6-month period following the collapse of the PDP-BJP coalition government after the saffron party withdrew support. The state assembly was also kept in suspended animation so that political parties could explore the possibility of forming a new government.
