Who is Maharashtra's newly appointed Governor C Vidyasagar Rao?

Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao was appointed the new Governor of Maharashtra on Tuesday after K Sankaranarayanan resigned from the post after he was transferred to Mizoram by the central government.

* Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao was born in 1945 

* Rao holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from Osmania University. Prior to joining politics, he was a practising lawyer from 1972 to 1984. 

* Rao is also a former Union Minister of State of India. He was Minister of State for internal affairs in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government from 1999. 

* He was thrice elected to the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh as a member in 1985, 1989 and 1994 respectively and was Leader of Opposition in the House. 

* He was elected to 12th and 13th Lok Sabha from Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate.

* ​He was also the BJP National Executive Member

* Member, Committee on Finance

* Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

* Member, Court of University of Hyderabad, 1998-99
